In writing this play I was interested in the themes of conformity and rebellion. There is a sense of the main character’s endevours (dictated by the narrator) as inhibiting them – as a kind of alegory for social conformity. Theatrical form i.e. the convensions of the narrator and actor are used themselves as metaphors for the individual versus the social. I was also interested in language – and the complicity of certain kinds of language in the excise of social power over the individual.
